Background
People are getting fined by police who are following advice on the interpretation of rules to do with lane filtering. But aspects of the Dept of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) interpretation are incorrect. The incorrect information has been on the TMR website for a number of years, despite being alerted to the confusion and errors when it was first uploaded.
Project Description
This project will:
• Deliver the QMC Lane Filtering Project Report detailing the rules and the areas of confusion that require review and change to provide clear definitions to enable ease of understanding and application
• Provide report to TMR for their review and to provide feedback to QMC
• Provide report to Queensland Police (QPS) for their review and to provide feedback to QMC
• Conduct joint work sessions with TMR, QPS and QMC to work through the TMR and QPS responses to the QMC Lane Filtering Project Report
And develop joint agreement on:
o Discrepancies identify in the report or any others discussed
o Amendments required to the TMR website to remove/change the erroneous comments
o Amendments to the rules to make them clearer so they are not misinterpreted.
o Future consultation with QMC whenever policy changes relating to motorcycle lane filtering are being considered.
